I was in the Air Guard (F-4 WSO) for 8.5 years and the USAF Reserves for two. I would recommend that you find a guard unit with fellow aviators you feel comfortable with and join them.

Two reasons I suggest the guard over the reserves;

1. The turnover is less, so you get to know them more and are not strangers all the time. This matters especially for reason number 2.

2. It was always made clear to guard members that if you got called up to active duty, you would go as a unit. This going to fight with guys you know and trust.

As opposed to the individual call ups that can happen to reservists, in which case you may have to go with other individuals you don’t really know.

Just my thoughts.

We should talk sometime. The only military jet I ever wanted to fly besides the F-4 was the Strike Eagle, would like to hear about that.

I was Army guard (Michigan), but I concur with preferring guard for a reserve component.
